First day of spring and boy didn’t it just bring everyone
out? Not only a big group from HuRTS but perhaps the finest sights seen around
Farm Cove in years(particularly around the Fleet Steps area) – Poor Crossy Lad
couldn’t trust himself and had to call time after 4 reps and the ‘Happy Hammer’(James)
glasses were constantly steaming up on each rep.
Anyway, back to it, the session was 8 x 5 minute efforts and
I decided before the set had started to do 6 strong ones, and from the off
found I was working with Macca, Jerome, Bruce and a couple of others on 3.30
pace covering 1.45ks.
Returned at the same pace but then decided to start further back
from the group outside the Opera Steps for the remaining reps as I was keen to
avoid the side path on the far side of Mrs. Macs Chair and timed it to hit the
top of the hill on the 5 minutes.
Reps 3 and 4 were the same pace and managed to pretty much
hold for the final 2 just dropping out a touch to 3.33s
Called time after the 6th as I’ve also been
having a bit of glute tightness in my left side and didn’t want to overdo it. It’s
been sore since last Tuesday and I’m hoping a trip to my Acupuncture lady
tomorrow will help ease the pain before race day comes on Saturday.
Rep paces today were. 3.30, 3.30, 3.30, 3.30, 3.33, 3.33
Other than the glute I didn’t feel too bad today with the
pace but it will be interesting to see if I can drop the pace by 6-7 seconds
per k at North Head and hold for the 10ks without the safety of the given
breaks?
No sign of the Chairman Tommy H (again), Enda, Renaud,
Leech, or Kanser (all people with bets laid for Saturday)…. Wonder if they are
doing secret training somewhere? Although nice to see Fats, Sammy J, Corky O’Connor
and Muzza back and good to see Birchy
managed to get his ill fitted top back on to join us as well.
Rest day tomorrow
Cheers
