Absolute shocker of a morning with heavy rain falling overnight and even I was in two minds at one point if to venture over to Lane Cove for the 3rd Striders 10k race of the season.
Made my way over and it was only the brave out there today but good to see #1 Barts, C.T, Tommy H, Birchy, Sonya, Taffy, Skippy, Laura, Macca and surprised to see Kanser fronting up for the first time in ages. A very short warm up and we were away, heart really wasn’t in it today to be honest but with the couple of bets laid re: Laura I had to keep it honest so just tucked in beside first lady Anna White (who I seem to be running with a lot in all the races so far this season).
Went through the first couple of ks OK but struggled as early as the first hill and the times slowly went downhill after that.
Think I went through the 5k mark in about 19.15 but still had the dreaded 400m climb to the turnaround after that, Saw Laura and had about 21 seconds on her, so knew I had to try to pick it up on the return to stand a chance. Pushed on the downhill and closed on Anna but in truth I was struggling and just didn’t have the fight in me once more
Came around to the finishing shute as the time clicked over 38.29, Pretty disappointed once more – I really am struggling to race these days and seem to be happy to take the easy option instead of pushing through it.
K splits as I saw them were, 3.40. 3.44, 3.56, 3.51, 4.03, 3.55, 3.47, 3.42, 3.50, 3.38
….Back to the drawing board, and I think I’ll have to take Tom’s (ongoing) advise and get those bloody tempo runs going before the important State 10k in 4 weeks time.
All times were a little down this morning due to conditions, C.T run well for 3rd, Tom was still feeling the effects from Thursday so went out easy before picking it up, Macca was solid, Birchy was average, and fair play to both Sonya and Taffy James for running in a netball outfit and England shirt care of losing a couple of bets to me. Only problem I have is that Taffy doesn’t want to return the shirt.
Timmy’s run of the day though goes to Barts who’s good early season form continues as he took out 2nd spot to Criniti
Official Results.
Despite an ordinary run, Post race coffee and Hot X Buns were taken at Sydney’s best kept secret at Macquarie Park Cemetery & Crematorium with Taffy, Sonya, Laura, Birchy, C.T and Kanser. What a heap of sh!te it is …. The old women (who looked like she been dug up from one of the nearby graveyards ) looked stressed in just trying to serve 6 coffees, Still Taffy likes it so that’s why we go J
Will be back out in the morning for the long run – don’t feel like it at the moment but will try to knock out about 22ks and may even try to lift the pace for a fast finish.
Big weekend on the footy, Stoke travel to the Drug Barons of Chelski who top the table , very tough game and not many come away from Stamford Bridge with any points.
Sorry to say but take the Timmy’s Tip – Chelsea 2 v Stoke 0
Elsewhere a small derby game is going on up North – both poor so I’m tipping a share of the points, Sunderland 1 v Newcastle 1
A few pics from this morning
...and so did Sonii in her Netball attire.
And a nice collect from Bichy for $20 after his 'Drunk' bet that he would beat Laura.
Only then to hand it to Laura after i failed to cover the 60 second handicap by a mere 7 seconds.
Post race coffee with Taffy, Birchy, Kanser.
Cheers
